The renowned multi-national conglomerate company AT&T will witness a spree of changes in its C-suite class. John Stankey, CEO of WarnerMedia, has been called upon to take up the role of President and Chief Operating Officer at AT&T.
Stankey will report directly to the company’s CEO Randall L.Stephenson. AT&T took this opportunity to announce the appointment of Jeff McElfresh as CEO of AT&T Communications. The new changes are set to be effective from October 1.
Things set into motion when John Donovan, the current CEO of AT&T Communications, announced an early retirement. The news came to light last month, and since then, AT&T has been in search for his replacement.
Now, the company has found a suitable candidate in McElfresh. McElfresh currently serves as the President of DIRECTV Latin America, AT&T Services, Inc.
Donovan had been the CEO of AT&T Communications for the past 2 years. He had also served as Chief Strategy Officer and Group President, AT&T Technology and Operations, before being promoted to the company’s CTO in 2008.
According to Stephenson, Donovan was a terrific leader and visionary who drove AT&T’s leadership in connecting customers, from their FirstNet buildouts to new products and platforms. Donovan revealed that he was looking forward to spending more time with his family post-retirement.
Stankey had been an integral part of AT&T since 1985. He would continue to act as the CEO of WarnerMedia, even after taking up the new position. Stephenson described Stankey as an outstanding executive who had led every area of their business and helped shape their strategy throughout his career.
AT&T is the world’s largest telecommunication company and the leading provider of telephone services in the US. WarnerMedia is a subsidiary of AT&T that was rebranded from Time Warner post the acquisition last year. WarnerMedia is an entertainment company that comprises of the famed HBO, Warner Bros, and Turner Broadcasting System.
