T-shirts are every time favorite pick for youngsters, along with the cost-efficient and comfort it gives a cool look. Earlier, there was not that much variety of t-shirts and now for a variety of events, we collect different t-shirts. With a variety of colors and patterns, the best pick nowadays is for some graphic or printed tees with some cool meme quotes. Yes, after listening to this, the only name came into mind is Bewakoof.com, a one-stop solution of creative and distinctive fashion for the trendy contemporary Indian’s.

An IIT Bombay alumni, Prabhkiran Singh, an ambitious entrepreneur, has given rise to India’s most likable and trendy app Bewakoof, which has a classy yet updated collection of apparels and accessories as per the recent Bollywood catch-phrases, memes, popular web-series, popular cartoon, etc.

From always, Prabhkiran was aware of the fact that he can’t do a regular corporate job. So while everybody was busy with the preparation of getting placed via campus placement in IIT 3rd year, Prabhkiran decided to set up a small business. It was summer, he experimented flavored lassi in his hostel room. Everybody liked and appreciated his lassi innovation.

As he was searching for an idea to set up a business, he determined to start a naturally-flavored, ice cream-laced Punjabi lassi shop outside the campus named Khadke Glassi. First 45 days, Prabhkiran was the only person who was serving lassi, as for any business, initial days are tough. As his investment was all roped into setting up the business, he couldn’t afford any staff.

Later on, Prabhkiran started a Facebook page of Khadke Glassi. Besides, his word of mouth has made his flavored lassi more sweeter, and he elevated his business by opening another Khadke Glassi outlet. However, monsoon has flushed his business as he discovered that in monsoon, no-body wants lassi, and he was forced to shut down his outlets.

Although Prabhkiran was not stopped here, he wants to build something stable where he has not to worry about the seasons. He was searching for some stable business. So he discussed his concern with his batchmate Siddharth Munot and came-up with the idea of starting online trendy and filmy-quotes apparel retail as going with regular was not Prabhkiran’s way.

Khadke Glassi has taken all his investment, and setting new business was the biggest milestone in their way. So for stabilizing business, Prabhkiran and Siddharth mortgaged their family property for initial funding and put a significant portion of capital to establish their brand Bewakoof in 2012.

Despite massive interest from VC firms for investing in the trendy apparel startup, Prabhkiran pivoted away from VC money. According to him, when VC capital gets involved in the business, the focus shifts to short-term results as it needs to exhibit results within 5 to 7 years, and Prabhkiran was focusing on the long run. However, Bewakoof accepts angel investments. Snapdeal co-founders Rohit Bansal and Kunal Bahl, along with Sixth Sense Ventures founder Nikhil Vora are the prominent investors of Bewakoof.

Yash Raj, Excel Entertainment and DC Comics are also responsible for Bewakoof’s fame, as it is in partnership with them as an official merchandise vendor.

Presently, the startup has more than 300 employees in its 1.3 lakh square feets property in Bhiwandi, Mumbai. It has 25 crore revenue and plans to scale-up more. With a vast variety of accessories and apparel, the startup is planning to introduce the collection of jeans in the coming months.
