Vernacular Edtech Entri Lands $1.4M From Good Capital In Seed Round
Entri, a Vernacular Edtech startup, has raised $1.4 million from Good Capital in its seed round funding. Entri is an Indian language learning app, which helps the government job aspirants learn Indian languages including English easily. This funding has fueled its aspirations and it’s now aiming for 10 million users and 300K paid users in the next one and half years.
Founded by Mohammed Hisamuddin and Rahul Ramesh in 2017, Entri is a part of the Boston-based Edtech accelerator named LearnLaunch '. It started in Malayalam and then kept on adding languages like Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. It also provides students who prepare for competitive exams with preparation material. More than 500 teachers and 6 thousand students are using it in India. The firm claims they have 1.6 million customers who have used the app
The co-founder and CEO, Mohammed Hisamuddin said Entri will be using this funding to add new languages. In the Hindi region, there are more than 150 million aspirants who are looking for government and private jobs. So, the firm will be recruiting more resources for faster growth to target that region.
Hishammuddin further added, not all the people have English as their first language. Although 5% of people have English as their mother tongue and the other 95% of people have different mother tongue languages. Eventually, people have to speak in English to understand the content and learn skills and that is what counts.
Good capital is an early-stage investment firm, which has invested in Tier-2 cities in India. Such as Meesho, Spatial, HyperTrack, SimSim, and Blink. Arjun Malhotra, the managing partner at Good Capital, said it is tough for people to get a job in their own language.
The job opportunity is very less in India due to the medium of learning. Arjun believes, knowledge of Excel and project management is not required to be excellent in speaking English and that’s where the services of Entri come into the picture.
