Pre-school Edtech Startup Lingumi Lifts £4m From North Summit
Lingumi, a pre-school ed-tech startup, has received £4M funding from China-based technology fund North Summit Capital. Besides, ADV, Entrepreneur First, and LocalGlobe also took part in the funding round. With the latest investment, Lingumi is going to launch daily English classes and videos to support children and families with kids 2-6 age for learning english during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2016, Adit Trivedi and Toby Mather founded Lingumi, a pre-school ed-tech startup that offers the best English speaking classes to children and families for learning English grammar and vocabulary just by sitting at home.
Instead of giving live classes and tutorials, which is quite expensive and goes with a proper timetable. Lingumi is someone who gives interactive tasks, games, and teacher videos. Eventually, after completing each lesson, children can see their Lingumi friends videos and can see how they speak words and phrases. Most of the kids watch it’s videos because the startup is very cheaper than the live classes and more flexible for parents.
Last year, Lingumi started its first course in China and focused more on teaching English. It is used by over 100,000 families all over the world, including Germany, Taiwan, Italy, China, France, and the UK. From the last six months, more than 1.5 million English speaking lessons have been scheduled in China, and have 40% daily active users. Due to COVID-19 in China, 50% of users are joining Lingumi in Europe.
Due to the rapid expansion of Ligummi in China, the startup needs a local investor, and Dr. Min and his team are a choice as they are well-qualified and have a good understanding of technology to scale up opportunities worldwide.
General Partner at North Summit Capital, Dr. Wanli Min said that Lingumi is capable of giving the best English speaking classes. It is offering tutorials to every kid by giving an AI system and an “asynchronous teaching” model.
There are a few startups who are competing with Lingumi, including VIPKid and Lingokids in the West, and Jiliguala in China.
